The Value of Sport in the Italian Constitution
The importance of sport in our country has finally been officially recognized through the modification of Article No. 33 of the Constitution, which now concludes as follows: “The Republic acknowledges the educational, social, and psychophysical well-being value of sporting activity in all its forms.”
Our Foundation feels particularly close to this significant milestone: sports education and psychophysical well-being are integral parts of our educational and growth model and convey healthy and positive values. These principles are essential for the development of boys and girls and for the training of our educators; they are the cornerstone for fostering a critical-reflexive attitude and an awareness of the limitations of the modern sports system, both in Italy and worldwide.
In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI addressed the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) with these words: “The Church is interested in sports because it cares about the whole person and recognizes that sporting activity impacts education, personal development, relationships, and spirituality.” These words are more relevant today than ever. Within our network, some Sports Centers prioritize sports education as the formation of the men and women of the future who make use of the potential and tools of the athletic world. Team play promotes interaction with others, enhances cohesion among boys and girls, encourages healthy competition, supports the development of care and attention to the weaker ones, and, most importantly, it’s a lot of fun!
So, let us face future challenges with enthusiasm, placing the social and educational value of sports at the center, alongside that of academics. Wishing everyone a great sporting experience!
