The Jesuit Education Foundation
The Jesuit Education Foundation (FGE) is an apostolic institution of the Euro-Mediterranean Province of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Fathers).
It is a foundation of participation, that is, constituted by schools and other educational entities that adhere to it and share the Ignatian pedagogy, spirituality and educational lines of the Society of Jesus.
The Jesuit Education Foundation is an instrument created to put the centuries-old educational charism of the Society of Jesus at the service of the challenges of today’s world: in fact, we are convinced that the Ignatian approach is still extremely relevant, and can help not only the Church but the entire society.
For this reason, the Jesuit Education Foundation promotes and develops the vision of life and the educational project of the Society of Jesus (also referred to as the “Ignatian educational project”), accompanying schools and institutes that are members, coordinating certain aspects and offering a series of support services in some particularly relevant areas (such as strategic planning, curriculum development, pastoral activities, technological innovation in teaching, education for global citizenship, administration, communication, training of educators and school leaders, etc.).
The Jesuit Education Foundation, however, is not only addressed to the realities directly managed by the Society of Jesus, but also to different subjects who wish to participate in the Foundation because they share its aims, values and way of proceeding.
The Foundation’s main areas of activity are:
- Educational activities (curriculum)
- Training of the main professional figures (in collaboration with CEFAEGI)
- Pastoral Care / Chaplaincy
- School management and organizational models (Governance)
- Global Citizenship Education
- Teaching and technological innovation
- Real estate, administration and management
- Communication
- Educational vision of Sport
Each of the areas is managed in specific Commissions or Working Groups, with local referents for each Institute, coordinated by experts and referents appointed by the Foundation itself. Through them, coordination between schools and other educational institutions in the various specific aspects is fostered, as well as the sharing of best practices, in continuity with the method of Ratio Studiorum, adopted by the Society of Jesus at the end of the sixteenth century.
In addition, the Foundation supports schools in the formulation of strategic projects at all levels, to help them look to the future in a sustainable and innovative way, accompanying them to identify their strategic objectives and plan the actions necessary to achieve them.
Periodically, the Foundation carries out “accompanying visits” to the different participating educational institutions, to coordinate and support the quality of the institution, in relation to the “Ignatian project”, and to accompany them to constant improvement.
