Artificial intelligence has become part of everyday life. It writes texts, generates images, suggests answers, organizes information, and increasingly influences the way we study, work, and communicate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Faced with this transformation, however, the most important question is not simply what artificial intelligence is capable of doing, but what it asks of education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every technological innovation changes the way we learn, build relationships, and make decisions. For this reason, artificial intelligence is not merely another skill to acquire; it is an opportunity to reflect on the very meaning of education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When discussing artificial intelligence, attention often focuses on the tools themselves: how they work, how to use them, and the risks they may present. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yet the deepest challenge concerns people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
How can we help young people use these tools with freedom and critical awareness? How can we educate them to distinguish what truly supports their growth from what may limit their ability to think, create, and choose independently? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Technology can simplify many processes, but it cannot replace discernment, responsibility, empathy, or the capacity to build authentic relationships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is where education has its most important role to play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pope Leo XIV expressed this perspective in particularly meaningful terms in the recent publication of the Encyclical Magnifica Humanitas<\/em>, dedicated to human dignity and the challenges posed by the technological transformations of our time. Within this context, the Pope invites young people not to let algorithms write their lives, emphasizing the need to safeguard freedom, responsibility, and the capacity for discernment <\/p>\n\n\n\n His words go far beyond the use of digital tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Every algorithm recommends content, shapes preferences, and influences decisions. Yet no algorithm can replace human freedom, the ability to seek what is good, assume responsibility, and make conscious choices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Educating today therefore means helping students remain the protagonists of their own lives by developing the critical thinking needed to use technology without becoming dependent on it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Within the Ignatian tradition, there is a concept that has become especially relevant today: discernment<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Discernment means learning to pause, observe, reflect, and choose what truly leads toward the good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In an age characterized by instant information, automated responses, and constant acceleration, this may be one of the most important skills education can cultivate. Artificial intelligence can provide countless answers. Education, however, continues to teach us how to ask the right questions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Technology can personalize an exercise, translate a text, or suggest a solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What it cannot replace is the educational relationship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Every authentic journey of growth begins with an encounter between people: through listening, dialogue, encouragement, and trust. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In Ignatian pedagogy, education means accompanying each person in discovering their talents and shaping their own life project.\u00a0No technology can replace this experience of personal accompaniment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For this reason, reflection on artificial intelligence has become a priority within Jesuit education worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the past year, the schools within the Fondazione Gesuiti Educazione<\/strong> network have promoted dedicated working spaces focused on these issues, with the aim of developing tools for reflection and guidance for the schools across the network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n At the same time, the Global Secretariat for Education of the Society of Jesus<\/strong> has established an Ignatian Task Force on Artificial Intelligence<\/strong>, called to reflect on the relationship between artificial intelligence, education, and Ignatian pedagogy. These are important developments, showing that the question is not whether or not to use artificial intelligence, but rather how to accompany students and educators in engaging with it consciously and responsibly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Artificial intelligence will continue to evolve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n New platforms, applications, and technologies will emerge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What will remain unchanged is the need to educate people who can think critically, build authentic relationships, take responsibility for their choices, and place technology at the service of the common good. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ignatian educational tradition reminds us that the true center of education is never the tool itself, but the person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It is precisely this perspective that can help schools face one of the greatest transformations of our time with confidence, wisdom, and hope. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Artificial intelligence has become part of everyday life.
